Adidas signed six student-athletes at Texas Tech University | Team Mahomes/adidas
Texas Tech golfer Matthew Comegys has just been added to a new roster: Team Mahomes.
Comegys is one of six Red Raiders to ink an NIL deal with three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes and sportswear giant Adidas.
The sponsorships are another way Mahomes is supporting his alma mater, adding to his recent $5 million gift to the stadium and football center project. It comes on the heels of Adidas’ new 10-year partnership as the university's official footwear, uniform, apparel, and accessory partner, which the Texas Tech legend helped champion.
“The energy around this partnership has been incredible, and this announcement shows just how important this is to me, adidas, and Texas Tech,” said Mahomes, who worked alongside adidas to handpick athletes across various sports.
Comegys, who currently ranks 85th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, shared on Instagram that he was "honored and privileged to join Team Mahomes."
Other athletes representing the inaugural NIL class include Micah Hudson (Football), NiJaree Canady (Softball), Jasmine Shavers (Basketball), Sam Courtwright (Soccer), and TJ Pompey (Baseball). Like Mahomes, five of the six athletes are Texas natives, including Comegys, whose hometown is Plano.
As part of the NIL agreement, members of the class will serve as ambassadors and appear in marketing campaigns featuring Mahomes’ apparel and a signature Mahomes shoe.
Texas Tech's athletic director, Kirby Hocutt, sees the partnership as a chance to boost the university's standing as a top NIL leader. “This wouldn’t be possible without a tremendous partner in Adidas that believes strongly in investing in our student-athletes under the Patrick Mahomes brand.”
Mahomes is the latest sports star to back his alma mater through NIL. Last week, Tiger Woods’ brand, Sun Day Red, launched a deal with Stanford quarterbacks Ashton Daniels and Justin Lamson.
